What will a trip to Boston cost?

The room rate, the food budget and the sightseeing budget are your inputs — the sliders start at a plausible mid-range setting and you move them to match what you are actually seeing when you search. The style-of-stay selector only nudges the food and sightseeing defaults; it never overrides a figure you have set yourself.

Fixed add-ons use round, deliberately simple numbers so you can see the arithmetic: airport transfers are counted as two journeys per traveller, a transit pass is counted per traveller per day, parking and day trips are counted per day and per room or party respectively. Local taxes on accommodation are not included, because they depend on the property — check the rate you are quoted.

Accommodation is the line that moves the total, far more than food or sightseeing. The same trip can swing dramatically depending on the week you pick and the neighbourhood you base yourself in, which is why the room rate is a slider here rather than a fixed number.

Three levers, in order of effect: move the dates out of peak weeks, move the neighbourhood one step away from the centre, and skip the car. Parking alone can add a meaningful amount over several nights.
