What the experts say

Boston from above

Boston is best understood from a height: the harbour on one side, the Charles on the other, the brick grid of Back Bay running into the towers downtown. This category catalogues the city's viewpoints, public observatories, rooftop bars, hotel lounges and the guest rooms whose windows do the work of a postcard, and explains what you are looking at once you're up there.

Hotel views are a market of their own: a corner room three floors higher can cost more than a suite elsewhere, and "city view" on a booking page can mean an air shaft. We name which properties deliver, which floors to request, and which skyline bars welcome non-guests.

Book the view, not the promise

View inventory varies sharply by district, the Seaport and Downtown own the harbour panoramas, Back Bay owns the river, so start with the neighbourhood hotel hub. Downtown Boston's best hotels include several of the city's highest rooms. Height carries a premium, so keep your Boston trip budget honest, and see which skyline properties earned a place in our TOP 50 hub.
