Boston gets filed under biotech, universities and finance, rarely under travel. Yet the region runs much of the machinery that moves people and feeds them once they arrive: the review site half the planet checks before booking, the terminal in tonight's restaurant, the commuter rail carrying hotel staff to work, the headphones that make the flight bearable. This list collects fifty companies headquartered around Boston whose product touches travel, lodging, food service or mobility.
The order is thematic, not a ranking. There is no first place: number 1 is not better than number 50, it simply sits in the first family. Entries are grouped by what they do, then numbered continuously.
How this list was built
We started from a long candidate list and cut hard. Every entry was checked against the company's own live site, and where a company files with the SEC, against its latest filing address. Anything unconfirmed was dropped rather than guessed. That cost us several known names: firms that left Massachusetts, firms absorbed and shut down, a few that stopped answering at their own domain.
- Headquarters in the Boston region — the city, Cambridge, Somerville and the Route 128 belt out to Beverly, Concord, Billerica and Canton.
- Still trading — a live site with current content, or a 2026 regulatory filing.
- A real link to travel — booking, lodging, mobility, food service or the visitor economy.
- Acquisitions allowed, relocations not — a company bought by an outside parent stays in if the Boston operation is still the operation, and we say so.
- No single hotels or restaurants — properties are not companies; operators, groups and platforms are.

Two Newton Place, Newton. It owns hotels rather than running them: the landlord layer deciding which brands go where.

Same Newton address, and manager of Service Properties Trust. A consequential travel business nobody has heard of.

We revise this page as things change rather than once a year, which is why there is no year in the title. Companies get acquired, move to Texas, or quietly stop trading, and we would rather fix an entry in a week than leave it wrong for eleven months. We add companies because they belong here, not because someone asked. We do read everything. To make a case, send facts: where you are headquartered, what you do, what separates you from the nearest three competitors. Adjectives do not help; a link that proves the claim does.

Yes: Boston, Cambridge, Somerville and the Route 128 corridor, from Beverly in the north to Canton in the south and Framingham to the west.
What got cut, and why?
Headquarters that left Massachusetts, businesses wound down after an acquisition, and a few whose status we could not confirm. Forty verified entries beat fifty with ten ghosts.
